The Purpose of the Health Ministry
We seek to serve members of the NW Church and our
Shoreline neighbors who want to improve the health of their bodies,
minds and spirits by providing informational classes, health clinics
and resource information to help them access needed health
services. Our commitment is to compassion and confidentiality as
we build understanding of the connection of faith and health - all to
the glory of God. We believe that by living healthy lifestyles,
accessing health care when needed and seeking God’s healing power we
will grow into the abundant life that Jesus has promised us.
The services to be provided by the Health Ministry
will be guided by the needs of the congregation and will fall within
the following general areas:
~ Health Teaching: in classes, small
groups, with individuals and through various types of media, health
information will be provided to the congregation. The teachers
will be mature Christians with professional expertise in various areas
of health care. We will learn to call on the power of God in
healing. In addition, health professionals from the community may
also teach classes such as infant and adult CPR.
~ Health Related Events: health screenings such as blood
pressure checks; flu shots by a nursing organization; health fairs for
the church and community.
~ Home Visits: nurse visits to assess needs of individuals
or families; visits in response to requests or referrals to coordinate
needed services. We will assess spiritual needs and pray with
individuals and families.
~ Prayer and Anointing: through prayer ministry we will follow the
teaching of the Bible to work with Elders to anoint with oil and pray
for healing as requested.
~ Advocacy: assisting congregation members needing access to
health care (medical, mental health, dental, long term care); develop
resource linkages in the community.
~ Outreach to Community: coordinate through existing
services of Northwest Church (blood drives, Celebrate Recovery,
DivorceCare, Shoreline Community Care); work with community to meet
identified health-related needs of children, elderly and families;
health fairs and teaching, and praying with and for people in need.
